Meet the team

Derek Derek Wright has been the Head Professional at Hamilton Golf Club since November 2002 and has more than twelve year experience in the golf trade. As an AA PGA Professional, his aim is to help golfers of all abilities to fulfil their potential and enjoyment of the game. He attends seminars and clinics frequently to keep up to date with the latest trends and theories.

Derek teaches all aspects of the game from long tee shots to accurate iron shots in our fully covered driving range. Take advantage of the short game area to develop a consistent and simple pitching and chipping action through to developing a putting stroke to handle all the pressures of the game. Video analysis is also offered for those requiring a more detailed view.

David has been associated with Hamilton Golf Club since the age of 15 and was lucky enough to win the junior championship on 3 occasions. He has been selected at under 16,18 youth and gents level to play for Lanarkshire.

As a junior he won the County Boys Stroke play and Spring Meeting. David also represented Hamilton Golf Club in the Scottish and British Boys championships.

In 2006, David won the Jackson Cup and went on to win the Lanarkshire Order of Merit. In 2007 his handicap was +2 which enabled him to play in the prestigious Lytham Trophy alongside golfers who would go on to win on the European Tour.

Paul Paul began playing golf at 13 and played county golf at all levels from U-16's through to 6 Man Area Team finals for Dunbartonshire, and was the County Matchplay champion in 2008.

Paul spent 4 ½ years at Stirling University on a golf scholarship, and was a playing member of 2 British University Matchplay Championship winning teams and 3 Scottish University winning teams. Paul also played for Great Britain in the World University Championships at Sun City in 2008, finishing 3rd. In the same year, he also represented the R&A at the Manuel Prado Cup in Lima, Peru finishing 7th individually and 3rd in the team event.

In 2009, he won the R&A Bursars event earning a spot in the European Palmer Cup Team for that year. Away from university, he won the SGU Champion of Champions at Leven Links in 2008, and also finished as the top qualifier in the 2008 Spanish Amateur Championship at Pals Golf Club.
