Throughout the history of Hamilton GC, there have been many significant achievements by members - in club competitions, in external competitions and by recognition at County, National and International level. Some of the more notable achievements by members include :

Gents

The first club champion was John C Barbour in 1912; and there have been numerous multiple winners of the club championship since. Some of the more noteworthy include :

  • P E Soutter who won the championship 8 times, spanning the pre & post war eras
  • Harry Milligan who won the championship 5 times over 3 decades (70s, 80s & 90s)
  • In 1996, the Scottish Mid Amateur Championship was contested by two players from the same club for the first time - Euan Moir & Brian Smith, with the latter prevailing on the day.
  • Ronnie Maclean won the Scottish Seniors Matchplay Championship in 2008
  • Stuart Henderson won the Lanarkshire Order of Merit in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015

Ladies

Within the Ladies section, there have also been many notable successes and achievements. Three ladies in particular are worth noting:

Joan Norris

  • County team player for 25 years
  • Reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Championship on three occasions 1968, 1971 and 1972
  • F J Morison Cup winner - 1965 - 1968, 1972, 1974, 1980, 1981, 1984 - 1986
  • Scottish Internationalist 1967, 1970 and 1971
  • Scottish Ladies Golf Association and International Selector
  • Hamilton Ladies Club Champion 1964 (Joan Smith),1966, 1968, 1970, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1979, 1982

Alyson Hendry
